This Sunday’s feast celebrates the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, the “mother and head” of all churches. But beyond commemorating a building, the celebration points to a deeper truth — that God dwells among His people.

The psalm today speaks intimately to us Filipinos. Having endured earthquakes in the Visayas and Mindanao, and now facing typhoons Tino and Uwan, we take comfort in its words: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in distress.” It consoles, it lightens, it gives hope — much like our Jubilee Year, which calls us to be pilgrims of hope. Amid corruption, uncertainty, and disaster, we remain steadfast, for the God of Israel and the God of the Philippines are one and the same — faithful, near, and never abandoning His people.

Saint Paul reminds us that we are God’s temple, built on the one foundation, Jesus Christ. Whatever threatens to destroy us will not prevail, for God Himself defends what is His. We are not helpless — we will be avenged, for justice belongs to the Lord.

In the Gospel, Jesus cleanses the temple, proclaiming that it will rise again — a sign fulfilled in His Resurrection. Once more, we are reassured: God is alive. He has already come to save us, and He continues to dwell within us.

Hibla: The Message of the Readings

God remains our refuge and strength amid trial and corruption.
He rebuilds what is broken and restores what belongs to Him.

Hugot: Points to Ponder

In times of fear or frustration, do I still recognize that God dwells here — in my heart, in our land, and in our people?

Hamon: The Challenge

Pray this week for those rebuilding after storms and earthquakes.
Be a sign of God’s living presence — one who brings calm, courage, and hope where others see despair.
