| Second Reading | Romans 11: 33-36 |
| Gospel Reading | Matthew 16: 13-20 |
Jesus does not ask His disciples what they have heard about Him. He asks a more personal question: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers with faith, and Jesus entrusts him with a great responsibility. The question is not only for Peter; it is also asked to us.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
The readings remind us that God entrusts His work to human hands, but the authority and wisdom remain His. Eliakim receives the key to the house of David, Peter receives the keys to the Kingdom, and Paul reminds us that all things ultimately come from God, through God, and for God. To recognize Christ is also to accept the responsibility of becoming His faithful steward.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
It is easy to say that Jesus is our Lord, especially when life is going well. But what does that confession mean when He asks something of us? If Christ is truly Lord, then our time, gifts, relationships, work, and resources are not simply ours to keep. They are things entrusted to us.
And like Peter, we will not always get it right. We will misunderstand, fail, and sometimes even make choices contrary to what Jesus asks. Yet Christ still entrusted the keys to Peter. God does not wait for perfect people before giving them a mission. He works through imperfect people who are willing to say yes.
Hamon: The Challenge
Ask yourself honestly this week: “If Jesus is truly Lord of my life, what have I been entrusted with that I need to use for Him?” Choose one thing: your time, a talent, a relationship, or a responsibility and use it deliberately for God’s purposes.
