When Seeing Isn’t Believing
September 28, 2025
26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
| First Reading | Amos 6:1a, 4–7 |
| Psalm | Psalm 146:7, 8–9, 9–10 |
| Second Reading | 1 Timothy 6:11–16 |
| Gospel Reading | Luke 16:19–31 |
The readings this Sunday draw a sharp contrast between the comfortable and the compassionate, between faith that acts and faith that merely observes. The prophet Amos condemns the complacent who live in luxury yet remain unmoved by the suffering around them. Saint Paul exhorts us to pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness until the appearance of Christ the King. In the Gospel, the parable of the rich man and Lazarus reveals the tragedy of blindness — not of sight, but of heart. Even if someone were to rise from the dead to warn us, would we truly listen? Faith demands more than seeing; it requires believing, choosing, and acting rightly before it is too late.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
Earthly comfort is fleeting, but compassion and righteousness endure before God.
Faith must move beyond perception into action — to see, believe, and live with concern for others.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Do you wait for miracles to believe, or do you believe enough to live as though eternity is real?
Hamon: The Challenge
Do one concrete act of charity for someone in need this week — not out of guilt, but out of gratitude for God’s mercy.
