Laetare Sunday is meant to be joyful—it is the moment in the middle of Lent when the Church reminds us that Easter is drawing near. Yet the readings today talk about blindness, misunderstanding, and the struggle between light and darkness. At first, this seems strange for a day of joy. But the deeper message is this: true joy comes when God opens our eyes. When we realize that God sees our hearts, guides us like a shepherd, and calls us out of darkness into light, we discover the reason for Christian joy.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
God does not judge by appearances but by the heart, and He calls us out of darkness into His light. True sight comes when we recognize His presence and believe in His work in our lives.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
The greatest blindness is not the inability to see with our eyes but the refusal to see God’s truth in front of us.
Hamon: The Challenge
Choose one situation this week where you will bring light—by speaking truth, showing kindness, or refusing to participate in wrongdoing.
