Sometimes we expect God to reveal Himself through something extraordinary: a miracle, a clear answer, or a dramatic sign. But this Sunday’s readings show us a God who can be found in a gentle whisper, in the middle of a storm, and even in the moments when our faith begins to sink.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
Elijah discovers that God is not always found in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in the gentle whisper. The disciples encounter Jesus not after the storm has passed, but in the midst of it. Paul, meanwhile, continues to love his people even in the pain of seeing them turn away from Christ. God remains present, even when His presence is difficult to recognize.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Perhaps our greatest struggle is not that God is absent, but that we have already decided how He should appear. We look for Him in answered prayers, miracles, and moments of peace, and wonder where He is when none of these come. Like Peter, we can become so focused on the waves that we forget to look at Jesus. Yet He has not moved. He is still there.
Sometimes God is the whisper we almost miss. Sometimes He is the hand reaching for us as we sink. Sometimes He is the strength that allows us to keep loving even when our hearts are breaking.
Hamon: The Challenge
This week, when you feel afraid, overwhelmed, or uncertain, stop and look for where God may already be present. Be still enough to listen, brave enough to reach out, and humble enough to take His hand. Instead of asking only, “Lord, where are You?” ask, “Lord, help me recognize You here.”
