Pause and give thanks

October 12, 2025

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading2 Kings 5:14–17
PsalmPsalm 98:1, 2–3, 3–4
Second Reading2 Timothy 2:8–13
Gospel ReadingLuke 17:11–19

This Sunday’s readings remind us that faith and humility are inseparable, and that gratitude completes the circle of healing. Naaman, a foreigner, obeys the prophet Elisha’s command with humility, and his faith makes him whole — body and spirit. Saint Paul, writing from chains, declares that the word of God cannot be bound, reminding us that divine fidelity endures even when ours falters. In the Gospel, ten lepers are healed, yet only one returns to give thanks — a Samaritan, an outsider. Gratitude, it seems, is not just good manners; it is a sign of faith that recognizes God as the source of every good gift and the end of every journey.

Hibla: The Message of the Readings

Faith finds its fullness in humility and gratitude.
Only those who remember the Giver in their blessings truly receive the gift of salvation.

Hugot: Points to Ponder

When was the last time you stopped chasing your future long enough to thank God for your now?

Hamon: The Challenge

Pause each day to recall one blessing — and deliberately thank God for it before asking for another.
