Pray and Persevere
October 19, 2025
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
| First Reading | Exodus 17:8–13 |
| Psalm | Psalm 121:1–2, 3–4, 5–6, 7–8 |
| Second Reading | 2 Timothy 3:14–4:2 |
| Gospel Reading | Luke 18:1–8 |
This Sunday’s readings highlight the irreplaceable power of prayer and perseverance in our life of faith. Moses’ outstretched hands during the battle against Amalek symbolized steadfast dependence on God, supported by the faith of his companions. Saint Paul urged Timothy to preach the Word with endurance — even when it was inconvenient, even when fatigue tempted him to withdraw. In the Gospel, Jesus taught through the parable of the persistent widow that prayer is not about convincing God, but about cultivating faith that refuses to give up. Prayer does not change God’s will; it transforms our hearts to align with it.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
Victory in life’s battles is sustained by persistent prayer and faithful witness.
When we persevere in faith — through exhaustion, doubt, or silence — we open our lives to God’s enduring strength.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Do you still pray with faith when your prayers seem unanswered, or have you allowed weariness to silence your hope?
Hamon: The Challenge
Commit to one specific moment each day for personal prayer — and keep it faithfully, no matter how tired or distracted you are.
