Reflect His Light
December 16, 2025
Tuesday advent weekday – Misa de gallo day 1
| First Reading | Isaiah 56:1-3, 6-8 |
| Psalm | Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 7-8 |
| Gospel Reading | John 5:33-36 |
We begin the nine days of Misa de Gallo focusing on true readiness! In today’s Gospel, Jesus validates John the Baptist by calling him a “burning and shining lamp.”
There is a powerful meaning hidden here: Jesus calls John a “lamp” (lychnos), not the “light” (phos). A lamp does not generate its own light eternally; it must be lit, and it consumes fuel to shine. The Gospel reminds us that John wasn’t the Messiah (The Light); he was a humble vessel that burned brightly to point toward Him.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
John’s testimony was “true” because it was never about self-promotion. A lamp is used to help people see something else. John shone not so people would look at him, but so they could see Jesus clearly. True readiness means positioning ourselves so that others see Christ, not us.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Your only job is to shine in a way that guides others to the Source.
Hamon: The Challenge
Be a lamp today. Do one act of service or offer a word of hope that helps someone see God’s goodness. When they thank you, deflect the praise and give the glory to Him.
