Waiting for Heaven
December 14, 2025
3rd Sunday of advent – gaudete sunday
| First Reading | Isaiah 35:1-6, 10 |
| Psalm | Psalm 146:6-7,8-9,9-10 |
| Second Reading | James 5:7-10 |
| Gospel Reading | Matthew 11:2–11 |
We rightfully call this Sunday Gaudete (Rejoice!) because joy is the proper response to a God whose promise never wavers. Yet, as we wait for the final redemption, our human nature grows tired. Like other religions and denominations that grow anxious in the long wait for the Lord’s return, we busy ourselves by modifying rules, adding laws, and distracting ourselves with the world’s sparkles—losing focus in the vigilance we were called to keep. This is why the Gospel presents the imprisoned John the Baptist, the great prophet, sending his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?” John, the man who knew Christ, asks the question we all silently harbor in our moments of doubt: Is this faith worth the wait?
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
The readings offer the definitive proof: Isaiah promises a future where the blind see and the lame walk (Isaiah 35), and when John questions Him, Jesus points to the very miracles he is performing as the fulfillment of that prophecy; St. James urges us to be patient like the farmer, for the Lord’s coming is not just a future event, but a present reality testified by healing and redemption.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
We use the world’s “sparkles” and manufactured rules to distract ourselves from the anxiety of waiting, but true joy comes not from distraction, but from seeing the evidence of God’s unshakable, active promise right now.
Hamon: The Challenge
Pause and recall three specific miracles or blessings God has already given you, and thank Him for those present signs of His fulfillment.
