The Not So Distant Paradise
November 23, 2025
The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ KING OF THE UNIVERSE
| First Reading | 2 Samuel 5:1-3 |
| Psalm | Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4, 4-5 |
| Second Reading | Colossians 1:12-20 |
| Gospel Reading | Luke 23:35-43 |
As the Liturgical Year comes to a close, the Church invites us to reflect on a King unlike any other.
In the first reading, the image of King David emerges: a strong, victorious leader, a warrior who ruled with authority. Yet in the Gospel, Jesus appears as King in a way that challenges every expectation: He is crucified, humble, merciful, and inviting. His throne is the Cross, and His reign is one of love, not fear. During Mass today, His invitation comes anew: “Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.”
A King who does not dominate from afar but offers Himself intimately, feeding us with His body and blood, drawing us to the very joy of paradise.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
Jesus is King not by conquest but by sacrifice; His presence in the Eucharist brings the promise of paradise close to us, every Sunday, every Mass.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Do we recognize that paradise is not distant? Jesus already brings it to us in the Eucharist, in every invitation to the table.
Hamon: The Challenge
Approach this week’s Mass with the awareness that paradise is present; allow Jesus to reign in your heart and transform how you live until you meet Him again.
