Holiness Requires Action
November 30, 2025
1st Sunday of advent
| First Reading | Isaiah 2:1–5 |
| Psalm | Psalm 122 |
| Second Reading | Romans 13:11–14 |
| Gospel Reading | Matthew 24:37–44 |
Advent begins not with comfort but with a wake-up call.
The readings remind us that God’s coming is certain, but our readiness is not. Many hope for heaven, but few want the path that leads there — the path of holiness, discipline, self-control, and obedience. These readings confront us with a truth: we cannot desire salvation and refuse transformation.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
We are invited to climb the Lord’s mountain — an active journey toward holiness — and to cast off the works of darkness so we may live as children of the day. Christ’s coming requires readiness, not passivity.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
We long for salvation, but we don’t want the sacrifice.
Hamon: The Challenge
Today, as the Advent season begins, what is the single, tangible “work of darkness” you will cast off?
Don’t just light a candle. Name one daily habit, distraction, or self-indulgence you will sacrifice this week to clear the path for Christ’s coming.
