| Psalm | Psalm 72:1-2, 12-13, 18-19 |
| Gospel Reading | Matthew 1:18-25 |
As we approach the Nativity, we focus on St. Joseph, a quiet and righteous figure. Mary’s unexpected pregnancy must have felt like a scandal in the eyes of society. Yet, Joseph’s response teaches us that true righteousness is not only about following the law—it is about obeying God with discretion, trust, and love.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
Joseph’s righteousness shines not in judging Mary according to the harsh standards of his time, but in his gentleness and willingness to act with discretion. He planned to divorce Mary quietly, showing class, respect, and mercy. When God spoke to him in a dream, Joseph obeyed without hesitation. True righteousness listens and trusts God, even when His plan challenges human logic.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
Like Joseph, we may face situations that feel unjust—circumstances that clash with our expectations or the world’s standards. In today’s world, the gentle and respectful conduct Joseph exemplified is rare. It makes us long for men who are considerate, principled, and merciful, just like him.
Hamon: The Challenge
Emulate Joseph: act with quiet strength, listen carefully for God’s instruction, and carry it out with love and integrity. Even when life seems unfair, trust that God’s plan is just and His guidance will lead you rightly.
