God lifts up the lowly
December 22, 2025
Monday advent weekday – misa de gallo day 7
| First Reading | 1 Samuel 1:24–28 |
| Psalm | 1 Samuel 2:1, 4–5, 6–7, 8 |
| Gospel Reading | Luke 1:46–56 |
The Magnificat is not merely a personal thanksgiving; it is a bold proclamation of how God acts in the world. Like Hannah before her, Mary recognizes that God’s power does not work according to human standards. Instead, He lifts up the lowly, fills the hungry, and humbles the proud.
Hibla: The Message of the Readings
God does not establish His reign through dominance or prestige, but through compassion for the humble and the forgotten. Mary’s greatness lies not in her achievements, but in her humility — her awareness that God has looked upon her lowliness. In this humility, God’s power is fully revealed.
Hugot: Points to Ponder
In today’s world, we often measure our worth by success, status, or recognition. Yet both Hannah and Mary remind us that God sees differently. They offer their sons — and their lives — back to God in trust and praise, amazed not by their own role but by His greatness.
Hamon: The Challenge
The challenge is to live the Magnificat daily. Instead of chasing power or validation, we are invited to embrace humility and trust. Where are you being called to let God be great instead of trying to prove yourself?
